The battery contact was a little smaller than the original but is still larger than motor one. Also the hole in the contact was a tad too large so the knurl on the bolt didn't grip as well as the video shews.
The BIG problem was getting the 15mm nut off due to lack of space. I used a deep 3/8" drive socket and a 5" (125mm) extension bar. This really deserves a "Dog Bone" special tool like those for drive shaft UJ's.
Compared to fitting a new starter it took about 15 minutes extra to refurbish the solenoid.
All in all a great product which saved me the expense of a new starter.

Once we got the bloody starter motor off (!) fitting the kit was easy and quick. All the components were plainly robust and and top quality and perfect replacements for the worn out parts.

Quite simply the best thing to get starter reconditioned, why replace the starter at great expense when all you need is this kit to sort the problem. Great to see a Company providing these resources

This kit provides a very economical and thorough replacement of all the necessary parts which wear on the TD5 starter motor solenoid at fractions of the price of a new or reconditioned starter motor.
I would say that it looks OK in the packet.

Good quick service from Four By. I cannot give much in the way of points or marks whatever on the actual product. (Solenoid overhaul ki) I’m afraid. But that is simply because I have not so far even opened the package. I failed to remove that top nut on the starter. Replaced the electrics intending to hand the vehicle (Discovery) to my nephew who has a hoist, and the starter has been no trouble since! THanks.

The most difficult part of the job is removing the starter motor although it might be just possible to repair without removing

Fixed the problem - in fact only only one contact and the plunger were worn out so I replaced them with the starter in situ. No hesitation in starting now!

There were two minor issues. The cable to the battery side of the solenoid-> the plastic isolator has castellations and no spanner or socket in my possession fitted inside to tighten the nut so I re-used the original. The same isolator has a seal between it and the body of the solenoid and this is not supplied in the kit so the original seal also has to be reused.
The kit works perfectly and saves the cost of a new starter motor!
Brilliant for the price, and I now have a reliably starting Defender again.

For anyone with a Land Rover Td5 you simply cannot afford not to install this kit. I was surprised how close to complete disintegration of the original contacts after 140.000 mls.
Also an easy fit for DIY or half an hour with a garage.

Have a Discovery 2 and needed to overhaul the starter. The kit arrived promptly and the video on youtube by Fourby to assist in replacing the parts was ideal. Took under an hour and was delighted at the quality of the materials and the detail for the job. Have a Defender Td5 and will now just repeat the job on it. Well worth doing . Thanks very much for your 1st class service. Much appreciated.

The instruction video was good. Removal of starter motor was best done with 3/8 drive socket. And putting the new solenoid in was easy , following the video. To ease the refitting of the stud on the engine side of the starter I epoxy glued a 3/8 drive socket to the head of the stud to stop any free play. Thank you.
So far so good, ask me next year.

Only changed the live contact and shuttle as the other side was not badly corroded (live side was very bad). This can be done without removing the starter motor, fingers crossed.

Does EXACTLY what it says on the tin! Follow the detailed instructions on Neil's video and you can't go wrong, would have been nice to have a paper exploded diagram of the assembly but I'm really nitpicking with that comment as its really intuitive anyway.
Good quality, robust components, minor niggle is that the shaped plastic isolator (the one with the pip in) is a bit tricky to get onto the nut to fully tighten with a socket but again its nitpicking.
Don't bother with the cheaper ones on eBay, I've seen them and they are decidedly ropey in comparison. Pay the extra get something you can trust that's been put together by folks who know what they are dealing with as they have been there and got the t-shirt themselves!
